Is There a Best Time of Year to Get a Termite Inspection?

When is the best time to have a termite inspection of your home?

It’s very important that you identify a termite problem in your home as soon as possible. Termites can cause a lot of damage if they remain undetected. You may feel relaxed, thinking that your property is perfectly alright but that is not necessarily the case. Termites eat the wooden structures of properties from the inside out. This means that you will not always really notice their presence until a large amount of damage is already done.

This is why it’s so important to have regular termite inspections of your home. You should check out pest control in Connecticut, to find a professional that can do the job for you. If you live in an area where termites are common, or you have had problems with a previous infestation, then you should have an inspection completed each year. If neither of these considerations applies then you should have your property inspected at least every two years.

When should the inspection be carried out?

You can have your home inspected for termites at any time but it’s worth pointing out that there is much termite action beginning in spring. This is when the winged termites, or alates, fly from established colonies to make their own nests. If you have an inspection carried out when this is happening then the pest control experts will check for the presence of these winged termites around your home. If they see groups of these termites gathered around closed doors or windows this is a sign that they are looking to use your home as a wood source for a nest that is being developed close by.

What other signs of termites might there be?

For the purposes of this article we are concentrating on subterranean termites which tend to be the most prevalent. These termites build mud tubes I which they move around. These tubes are usually about as thick as a pencil. They act as a mean of protecting the termites against potential predators. They also preserve a humid environment for the termites.

This humidity is needed to prevent the termites from drying out and dying. If these mud tubes are spotted around your home then it could be a sign that there are termites present. During an inspection of your home for termites a pest control expert will also probably knock on the wooden structures of the property. They can usually tell if termites have eaten away at the center of the wood as it has a hollow sound.

You can see that there are plenty of ways to tell if you have a problem with termites in your home; but it’s not always easy for you to spot these signs yourself. Termites tend to be sneaky and cause destruction in hidden away areas such as a crawl space. It’s always best to have an expert inspection carried out as professionals know exactly where to look.

I got one when we moved into our house, but that was 15 years ago. I never knew I needed to get them more than just when you get a home inspection.

We have a pest control company that comes every 3 months. They have checked for termites and thankfully, we didn’t have any.

We have a terrible time with termites on our house. We have someone come out almost every other month with another termite to that I need to destroy. We’re going to have to do a whole house treatment soon I think.

Here in Texas spring is the time for rain and storms, which sends swarms of termites through cracks in your home if you have an infestation. We found evidence of them in our walls. Thankfully we hired pest control and within a few days, they were gone, and we get regular checks now. I hate termites!
